(6/04) --Retroactive
to November 1, 2003, a Dental
Varnish Services Package (similar to the services currently in place
for Medicaid children) may now be provided to NC Health Choice children!
Practices should use the same codes and billing guidelines as are
in effect for Medicaid with one notable exception.
For the Initial Dental Varnish Visit, the provider
must submit two codes:
D0150:
For Initial Comprehensive Oral Screening
D1203:
For the Application of Dental Varnish
For the Subsequent Dental Varnish Visit, the
provider must submit two codes:
D0120:
For Subsequent Periodic Oral Screening
D1203:
For the Application of Dental Varnish
Oral Health Education (D1330) is not a separately
covered service in NC Health Choice.
Qualified Providers (defined in NC Health Choice
as Pediatricians and Family Practitioners) must allow no less than
a 91-day interval between visits.
A total of 6 visits (including Initial and Subsequent Visits) are
allowed between the time teeth erupt up to age 3.
Educate your families and providers about
the availability of this new service through NC Health Choice! It
is a great opportunity to prevent dental caries in the population
we serve. Questions may be directed to the BCBSNC / NC Health Choice
Line at 1-800-422-4658.
